The car can drive by itself–accelerate, brake and steer–on roadways at speeds of no more than 37mph/60kph. The mild hybrid system across the model range can shut down the A8’s engines during coasting and at longer idling periods. The brakes can regenerate lost energy and store it in the lithium-ion battery in the trunk.
