What’s Next: 100% Electric Luxury

The future arrives faster every day.  Or so it seems, when every new auto idea or market entry promises to be the boldest, the most dramatic, the most powerful, the most this or that. . .until the next nano-second when the next best thing is announced.

But just revealed at the recent Las Vegas CES (Consumer Electronics Show) is a new entry its maker announces has the “dynamic sportiness unmatched by any other electric car on the market,” and that undeniably has ‘the future’ in its DNA.

The luxury electric sedan Fisker Emotion (designed by Henrik Fisker, the great Dane behind the Aston Martin V8 Vantage and DB9 coupes) goes from 0-60 mph in under 3 seconds, with a top speed of 160mph, and pumps about 780hp (more than 575 kw) of power

The all-wheel drive Emotion offers level 4 autonomous driving, one-of-a-kind butterfly doors (openable via your smartphone), and, obligingly, what Fisker calls the “interior of the future,” complete with individually designed seats and “tailor-made luxury touches.”

Fisker also displayed its patent-pending flexible solid-state battery technology at CES.  The EMotion will launch with a lithium-ion battery pack, but the company is developing solid-state battery tech that could more than double the density of lithium-ion.  It’s “the next generation in charging everything from your personal cellphone to enabling mass adoption of electric vehicles due to unprecedented ranges and lightning-fast charge times,” said Chairman and CEO Henrik Fisker, who added, “Fisker Inc. is about breaking barriers, leading in automotive technologies and ultimately creating the most desirable, functional futuristic electric vehicles.”
